Speade was formed in 2002 as a logical progression from Sam Sneade Editing, which had been formed in 1996 when Sam Sneade set up a small shop cutting for directors such as Jonathan Glazer, Frank Budgen and Tony Kaye. “From the start” says Sam, “I was motivated by a desire to do great work and, most importantly, to enjoy doing it. Having the largest company in Soho was never really my objective, having the most talented was!”

We have got this covered with our 5 great editors, as you can see from their reels. They wouldn't manage it without our trusty team of assistants;

Chris Roebuck was found by us when one of our editors happened to be working with Chris in his home-town of Nottingham and he was immediately engaged as a runner, thanks to his cheerful nature and indefatigable helpfulness. But this masked a core of steel: within 6 months he was editing. “I’ve never witnessed such a rapid ascent” said Sam Sneade..

Ellie Johnson - The definition of grace under pressure, joining us a mere 14 months ago she too quickly progressed from runner to assistant, proving enormously capable in all areas. The only trouble with her is she never goes home; attempts have been made, inducements offered, but she clings stubbornly to her post, usually preferring to cut music videos for young directors rather than grace the numerous soirées to which she has been invited.

Sacha Szwarc; And finally, last but not least, the mighty Mr Sacha Szwarc fresh from los Angeles California via Paris, a truly international man of Mystery. When we saw him, we just had to have him. Furiously techie (we think he had a direct line to Steve Jobs- lets see what happens going forward) and already an impressively accomplished editor too. We expect great things of this young chap.

Come back all is forgiven Ella Richards! Yes Ella, as editing stalwart of Speade since its inception in the mists of the last century, she actually left in 2008! Unbelievably two years later, to much general joy and celebration, she re joined as Speade’s senior producer. Now Ella is certainly the only post production producer in town who can, if the going gets tough, jump on the Avid and do the job herself! Her in depth technical background and editing knowledge leaves her uniquely positioned to respond to the fast-changing nature of today’s post-production scene.

None of this is much use without our dedicated assistant producer, Chantal Robinson who embodies all the Speade virtues of customer focus and a sense of humour, and is especially adept at helping production companies and agencies arrange their budgets to meet the demands of these new, more straitened times.

And no one at Speade could be without Charlie Rose Jones - the loveliest runner in Soho, who is learning the ropes of assisting already.

The heart of what Speade is about, is editing. “Its that simple” says Sam, “we just love it, in all its forms; the moulding, the shaping, the craft and the story telling. It’s sometimes hard to convey to an outsider the sheer joy of making something come to life, and this hopefully communicates to the directors and agencies we work with. I’d rather have an empty room than fill it with an operator”.
